Amazon Prime’s Hidden Benefits Go Far Beyond Fast Shipping

Amazon Prime has come a long way since it launched in 2005 for $79. Back then, the focus was on fast deliveries and that’s still the biggest feature announced today – free two-day shipping on qualifying items anywhere in the US, as well as extended delivery times. day, same day or even 2 hours for a small set of products.

The annual cost of Amazon Prime has nearly doubled since then to $139 per year (or $15 per month), but it also dramatically multiplied the number of features and benefits, including some you might not even be aware of.

You may know about free movies, TV shows and music streaming with Amazon Prime, but what about discounts at Whole Foods, trying on clothes before you buy them and saving money on prescription drugs?

Read on to find out the biggest Amazon Prime membership benefits you might not know about. To find out more, find the best movies and TV shows to watch on Prime Video and get all the details on Amazon Prime Day 2022, October 11 and 12.

1. Get HBO and other premium TVs without cable

You’re probably familiar with Prime Video and Amazon Music Prime, but you might not know all the specific details. Amazon Prime members have access to a huge number of feature films and original TV shows such as The boys and The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Poweras well as an Amazon Music Prime library containing 2 million songs and thousands of curated playlists.

Prime members can also download movies and TV shows to watch later offline.

And if a show or movie you want to watch isn’t included in your basic Prime membership, you can subscribe to premium channels like HBO, Showtime, and Starz for $5 to $15 a month, without needing cable or satellite service.

Music lovers can upgrade to Amazon Music Unlimited to get a library of 90 million songs that can be streamed to multiple devices for $9 a month or $89 a year.

2. Save money with no rush shipping

If you don’t need your purchase delivered quickly, you can opt out of two-day or less delivery options by selecting “no rush shipping” and receive your package in approximately six days. In exchange for your patience, Amazon will give you rewards.

There’s no standard for no-rush shipping rewards — they vary from item to item — but they generally offer discounts on products and services you might buy on Amazon.

Some common rewards are $1 credits for Amazon digital services like movies, music, and e-books, $3 coupons for Happy Belly-branded snacks from Amazon, $10-$20 off TV or furniture purchases and $10 to $20 off Amazon Home services.

The value of No-Rush Shipping will depend on whether or not one of the rewards is redeemed. It might not seem like much, but a few no-rush shipping picks could easily net you the $3-4 you need for a free movie rental from Prime Video.

3. Whole Foods Grocery Discounts

If you’re a frequent shopper at Whole Foods, an Amazon Prime membership can pay serious dividends. Prime Member deals available at physical Whole Foods stores offer members 10% to 20% off select items marked with blue Amazon stickers.

yellow tags indicate even greater savings, usually at least an additional 10% off an already discounted price. Prime members who scan the Whole Foods Market or Amazon app at checkout get an additional 10% off store-wide sales. Prime membership also gives you access to special online offers.

Prime Video has been showing NFL Thursday night games since 2017, but the 2022-23 season marks the first time you can only watch Thursday night games via Amazon.

The popularity of the NFL was highlighted when Amazon recorded its highest ever number of Prime subscriptions for a three-hour period during its exclusive screening of the Week 1 game between the Chiefs and Chargers. Prime Video has also shown season-ending Saturday games and wild card playoff games in recent years.

5. Free Same-Day Amazon Fresh Delivery

Whole Foods isn’t the only grocery option available to Amazon Prime members. Subscribers also have access to the Amazon Fresh online grocery store which offers free deliveries to select locations. Amazon Fresh offers similar products to Whole Foods, but generally focuses on a wider range of groceries and household products at lower prices.

Anyone can shop on Amazon Fresh, but only Prime members get free same-day delivery. Amazon Fresh also has 44 physical locations that offer special weekly deals for Prime members.

6. Try on items like clothes and shoes before buying them

It’s almost impossible to size a garment properly online. To find out if it’s right for you, you have to try it on. Prime members have that chance with Amazon’s “Try Before You Buy” service. In specific personal shopping categories like clothing, shoes, and accessories, you can order items and keep them for seven days without paying for them.

Return what you don’t want before the end of the trial week and you’ll only pay for the items you keep. Eligible products are indicated on Amazon with a “Try before you buy” icon. Several online reports have listed a six-product limit for “Try before you buy,” but the Amazon site doesn’t specify a maximum.

7. Borrow unlimited books, magazines and comics

Amazon Prime members have access to Prime Reading, a service similar to Kindle Unlimited with a different collection of materials. You can borrow as many books as you want, and many include audible narration, allowing you to switch between reading and listening. Electronic downloads do not require a Kindle or Fire device.

Amazon First Reads gives Prime members access to publishers’ picks of early book releases. Anyone with a Prime subscription gets one free Kindle book per month, plus regular discounts on select titles.

8. Exclusive offers, faster delivery and a month of testing for running shoes from Zappos

Amazon acquired online shoe giant Zappos in 2009, and it now offers a number of benefits to Prime members who link their accounts on Zappos.com. Prime members get faster shipping, bonus reward points for purchases, and exclusive offers on select products.

Zappos also allows Prime members to participate in Runlimited, a 30-day warranty program for running shoes.

9. Early Access to Lightning Deals on Amazon Prime Day

Flash deals are kind of like Amazon’s version of a fire sale, with very low prices for a limited number of products that sell out very quickly. During Amazon Prime Days, these flash deals can become extremely popular and very short-lived.

The good news for Amazon Prime members is that they get access to lightning deals on Amazon Prime Day 30 minutes earlier than everyone else. The bad news? There are a lot of Amazon Prime members out there…

10. Save money on prescription drugs online or at your local pharmacy

The Amazon Prime Rx savings program offers Prime members discounts on prescription drugs, whether purchased at Amazon Pharmacy or in-store at a physical pharmacy. An Amazon Rx savings card can be printed or digitally saved and used for discounts at over 60,000 participating pharmacies, including CVS, Walgreens, and Rite Aid.

Amazon says members can save up to 80% on common prescription drugs using Prime Rx, but it’s important to note that Amazon’s Prime Rx savings program doesn’t work with health insurance. You will need to ensure that the savings you get from the program are greater than what you would get from insurance coverage.
